  1. I am planning on hiking Kings Peak Utah this August. I plan to camp out a couple of days, maybe at Dollar Lake. I read on one site that the NPS requires a Bear Container for food. Does anyone know if this is true? I couldn't find it anywhere else.

  2. If there is then i didn't know anything about it? I hiked it with a two over night stay and didn't see a bear our bear signs. Moose was the only problem as they wander around the trails so beware of them.

I found information on summitpost.org about bear canisters but they arratently confused Kings Mountain with the King Range in California which requires canisters along the beaches as well.

Check out: http://www.wilderness.net/index.cfm?fuse=NWPS&sec=thingstoconsider. It states bear canisters are recomended (not required) for use in bear country.

  3. Can anyone suggest a guide for Boundary Peak in NV? I want to climb it the first few days of September, but my wife doesn't like me to climb alone anymore.

  4. I am tentatively planning to hike Boundary in Sept., but I have never done it.
However, I am planning to go with a fellow highpointer that has done it. We have not finalized any plans. I cannot do it the week end of Sept. 17 -20, and the other guy is currently out of the country.

  5. An ethics question...I climbed Marcy yesterday. Visibility at the top was 20-30 ft, with gusty winds. I spent about 15 minutes there. From what I could see, it went down on all sides. At the bottom I mentioned I didn't see the plaque. This bugged me more and more. After several hours, I consulted summit photos and uploaded videos from others--on clear days. Studying those, I realize I was about 100 feet from the true summit, and no more than 5 feet vertical off. So, does it count???

  6. If you think it counts, it counts. If you don't then that's your decision too.

  11. I'm planning a trip to Borah Peak in Idaho early-mid August. Has anyone been there recently? Ice Axe? Crampons needed?

    Thanks
